What we cover
Four kinds of plumbing request
Most South African plumbing calls fall into one of these. Pick the closest one — the plumber will sort out the detail when they look at it.
Geyser repair and replacement
No hot water, a dripping overflow, a stained ceiling or a burst cylinder — repair or full replacement.
- No hot water at all, or hot water that runs out far sooner than it used to.
- Water dripping or pouring from the overflow pipe on the eaves or outside wall.
- A brown ring, a sagging board or water running down a light fitting in the ceiling.
Blocked drains and sewer lines
Slow baths, gurgling toilets, an overflowing gully or a sewer smell in the yard — rodding, jetting or a camera inspection.
- A bath, shower or basin that drains slowly, or stands full long after you have finished.
- A toilet that fills and drains back slowly, or will not clear at all.
- Gurgling from a nearby drain when you flush or empty a bath.
Leaks, burst pipes and leak detection
A meter that spins with every tap closed, a damp wall, a warm patch on the floor, or a pipe that has already burst.

What to have ready
A plumber cannot price what they cannot picture. Two minutes of preparation is the difference between a firm quote and a wasted visit.
- The suburb, not just the city — it decides who can actually reach you.
- Which fixtures or rooms are affected, and whether it is one of them or all of them.
- Whether the water is already isolated at the stopcock or the geyser valve.
- For a geyser: the size in litres, where it sits, and whether the ceiling is wet.
- Photos in daylight of the fixture, the pipework and the room.
- Whether you intend to claim from insurance, or need a certificate for a property transfer.
If water is running right now
Close the main stopcock. Switch the geyser off at its isolator. If water is near a plug point, a downlight or the distribution board, switch off the main breaker and stay out of the water.

Most complaints about plumbing lead sites come down to the same handful of practices. We have written ours down so you can hold us to them.

How many plumbers will contact me?
One. Your request goes to a single plumbing business that covers your suburb. We do not sell the same request to several companies, which is why you will not get five calls in an hour.
Why do you not publish prices?
Because an honest plumbing price cannot be written before someone has seen the job. A geyser in an accessible garage and a geyser in a double-storey roof space are not the same job, and pretending otherwise would be inventing a number. The plumber who attends gives you the figure.
Does it cost anything to request a quote?
Requesting a quote through this site is free and it does not commit you to anything. The plumber may charge a callout or diagnostic fee for attending — ask what it covers and whether it is credited against the work if you go ahead.
Are you a plumbing company?
No. LocalQuote SA publishes the pages and passes on quote requests. We do not do plumbing work, we do not employ plumbers, and we do not supervise the work. The contract for the work is between you and the plumbing business.
What happens to my personal information?
We record your consent under POPIA along with the request, pass the request to one plumbing business so they can contact you, and delete it on request. The detail is in our privacy notice.
